Arnettra   Barber-Burnside

My name is Arnettra Barber-Burnside and I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Trustee for the Village of Maywood Illinois! I am running for Trustee because I am concerned about the current status of Maywood, I have a heart for people, and I know that when we unite and work together, only the sky is the limit of our efforts.

 

I have lived in Maywood for 21 years. I was married for 28 years, I am a mother, grandmother and Community Activist. I have a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Paralegal Certification from DePaul University. 

 

I have worked as an educator for Proviso Township High Schools,  with the US Post Office, serving as a Union Steward, and where I still provide consulting services. I am currently, a Commissioner for the Maywood Park District where a team approach yielded great returns. Some of the accomplishments achieved as the Maywood Park District Board of Commissioners include; the opening of the 809 building after decades of closure, implementing the Osland Grant and the creation of Recreational Services for Special Needs individuals. I  earn a living working with the Illinois Department of Human Services. I serve on the Executive Board for AFSMCE Council 31 Local 2854 and Chief  Union Steward for Stroger FCRC and 2020 Roosevelt.

 

As a Community Activist, I played an instrumental role in drafting the 2nd Chance Act for Ex-offenders and the State of The Black Male Study.

 

While I am proud of my family, enjoy my work and activism, it is my faith that keeps me grounded and energized. I am pursuing my Master's Degree at Moody Bible Institute. I was raised in the church, and I am a member in good standing at Rock of Ages Baptist Church located in Maywood Illinois.
