PLATFORM

"I come from proud a family that has been involved with public service for as long as I can remember. I want to work for you and WITH YOU. We need more businesses in Maywood, fresh food - grocery store(s), and make public safety - especially getting guns off the streets, a top priority. With over two decades of experience and education managing contracts, budgets and government policies, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate the complicated governmental agencies, and get things done."
LIST OF ISSUES
Economic Sustainability

The Village of Maywood governing body needs to develop a strategy for short and long term economic growth without negatively impacting social, environmental and cultural aspects of the community. While I have some ideas and have had some success implementing plans for this concern, we must look to work together to accomplish these tasks.

Safety

Nearly two years ago, my youngest and only son, Andrew Burnside was murdered while walking on Washington Avenue in Maywood Illinois. As a result, I have a very personal issue with gun violence and know this must be answered swiftly if we want to continue as a village. Far too many young people in our community have died and we must work together to find solutions to keep everyone safe.

Andrew was honored by the military academy where he studied, and he left a daughter behind that he never had a chance to see. I miss him daily. The authorities believe he was not the intended target, however, his killer has never been found. But I believe his death will not be in vain. We must strive hard to stop these senseless killings so that no other family will have to go through the tragedy and pain that continues to plague my family.

A United Board of Trustees

We can accomplish much, together. I have worked with various entities and have learned the art of teamwork. I believe I have the skills to unify individuals from various backgrounds to work for a common goal, a successful community.

Food Desert

Maywood once had three grocery stores. Today, there are some small shops that sell food items, but a full retail store is desperately needed. We are on the corridor of the 290 Expressway with four major hospitals. The residents of Maywood deserve a place to buy fresh food and other grocery items.

Water/Environment

There are media reports and other accounts of challenges with the water department and in turn our environment. It is past the time of giving lip service to the problems, its time NOW to work together to find solutions.
